“GOP (Girth of Penis)” Acrylic, Glitter, Beads on Wire On canvas 36x48” These works are about my various experiences with harassment. There’s currently a lot of talk about the “male loneliness epidemic” and this is the flip side of that coin. I get a lot of attention from men both online and in person. This can range from positive and mundane to following, groping, yelling, ect. It makes me feel like some sort of hunting trophy they wish to capture. Most of the men who do this aren’t actually interested in me, they just want power over me. I get cat called more than any of the women I know. I wear pink dresses everyday, so I stick out. I think this leads some men to think I dress for them. Sometimes I wonder if I’m inviting the attention by being myself, but men treat you like a sex object regardless so trying to change myself to avoid this is futile. I also wanted to talk about art history and its portrayal of women. Because I make very girly sparkly pink art, it can be seen as childish. Men’s interests and aesthetics are not mocked this way.
