I hate the winter and want it over with as soon as possible. I'm jealous of geese who can fly south for warmer weather, while I'm stuck frozen in misery. The last few winters, I've really tried to appreciate the beauty of winter to cope with my hatred of it. When I first conceived of this piece, I imagined the story as an inevitable failure. The girl tries to reach the geese, but they take off without her, leaving her to watch from under the ice. As I was working, things changed. I added a house off in the distance, and the colors became brighter and warmer. Though her struggle is painful and real, there is hope. She can't fly off with the geese like she wants, but she can find someone in the cabin, sit by the warmth of a fire, and watch the winter melt into spring.
